I first reported this issue to the Pinellas County Public Works Department, as the problem lies with a feature (loose tactile treads) of the Pinellas Trail… and, the Pinellas County Public Works Department maintains the Pinellas Trail. However, Pinellas County denied responsibility, and sent the problem to the City of St. Petersburg; St. Petersburg promptly said: “not our problem,” and sent it up to the FDOT.
To be perfectly clear: the loose tactile treads (anchoring screws are sticking up) are not part of any State road, or of any part of any City of St. Petersburg street… the problem lies within the Pinellas Trail.
Which agency is going to fix this? It is a safety hazard deserving priority treatment and immediate attention. Thank you!

That’s very interesting. A bonafide extension of the Pinellas Trail is just being completed through Tierra Verde… just south of, and connected to, the trail with the loose and protruding tactile tread fasteners. Many Tierra Verde residents have raised concern about the two-way trail being run across multiple HOA driveways along the Bayway; wanting, instead, one trail for south-only biking, and one for north-only… both going with the flow of vehicular traffic.
We (the Tierra Verde residents) have been told, by both Pinellas County and the FDOT, the two-way bike track is required so as it (the portion thru Tierra Verde) will conform to the Pinellas Trails north & south of the new one in Tierra Verde. I will, for clarification, be referring this matter to Mr. Justin Hall, Director of Transportation Development, for the FDOT.

Attention St. Pete Service Center: the FDOT now says the problem will be corrected by you, the City, per an email I received yesterday, 6/3/23: “…Good morning Mr. Mauro, Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention. We have coordinated with the City of St. Pete to resolve this issue. This portion of the trail is maintained by the City, and they have confirmed they will be making this repair…Thank you!...Maddie Pfingsten, Community Outreach, Florida Department of Transportation, District Seven – Pinellas Operations Center, Phone: 727-575-8334…”
QUESTION for the St. Pete Service Center: are you aware you have been called out as the “owner” of this problem? Please advise… Thank you!
