I have often thought there must be a better way to handle traffic at this intersection. I have often turned right onto State rather than try crossing two+ lanes of State Street traffic to go north on State. What also complicates matters at this location is the parking on State to your left and to your right which block your view and require you to be well over the cross walk and into State Street to see. A light at that intersection would help those entering from Trumbull for those reasons. It would also slow traffic on State which may not be necessarily a good thing as many are exiting to I-91. Speaking of which that is the other problem here. Stopping traffic on Trumbull at State in heavy traffic times potentially backs traffic back toward Orange Street to the on-ramps to I-91. The State of CT will look at any proposal that would impact that intersection of Orange and Trumbull with a very critical eye. That intersection has a very high volume and many accidents--obstructing flow would not be a good thing.
