  As you indicate, this area is in the midst of a full-scale repair. The process for repaving a street is two-fold. First, the City performs the requisite utility work underground, usually in the late fall. The second and final part of the process is a complete repaving of the street, which takes place in the following spring.

  The City is aware that the first phase of this project was completed less than perfectly. We will be making spot repairs as necessary throughout the winter, but the final construction will not begin until the spring.

  Aware, yet not addressing it lacks professionalism. The final patch job should have been more closely watched knowing it would not be replaced until the spring. The work is unacceptable, plain and simple.

  City did the same thing with Centre Street. They dug up the entire road at the beginning of last May. Almost no work was done on the road in the following months until finally they paved the road in October.....almost 6 months after digging it up. I made several phone calls to Mayor Koch's office to complain. They indirectly admitted that the project had been mismanaged but that it was a leftover from the "previous administration." Apparently they hired the same contractor to pave Centre St as was also doing the work near Hancock Street and they couldn't handle both jobs at the same time. Clearly Quincy DPW needs to get their act together. I suggest you keep calling Mayor Koch

  I agree that this patch job is horrendous (excuse me, "less than perfect").
  City of Quincy, I realize the freezing temps prohibit repair currently. I would only hope that as soon as temps rise above freezing in the Spring (of 2012), that the City is out here fixing our main route for our neighborhood. I'm looking forward to a pristine pave job for the entire route, but at this point I'll settle for an average road found in Fallujah. It would be an improvement!

  I agree with everyone else here. The water main repairs were performed 2 months ago and the paving done was crappy. That road is tearing apart my car's suspension system. Get it fixed or I'm not going to be voting the current Mayor back into office!

  I also will not be voting the current Mayor back in should this not be fixed ASAP. Cars are starting to drive on the wrong side of the road just to avoid this mess.

  More importantly, why aren't intermediary steps being taken to at least make this bearable? For instance, send a street sweeper down to clean up the debris that has accumulated on the side of the road, notably BLOCKING most of the storm drains and pushing the water to the middle of the street. There remains a tremendous amount of rocks and stones from the poor paving job. It's pure laziness. Evidently we don't 'rate' high enough on your list of priorities. I pay my taxes. In fact, I believe it's those taxes that pay our city employees. Consider that when you're avoiding addressing this in a timely fashion....

  DPW crews are out there as I type repairing potholes along the water main.

  The final reconstruction of Sea Street is going to be the very first large-scale project done by the DPW this spring. We will be going out to bid for the project shortly, and we will get going on the project as soon as possible. Stay tuned to www.quincyma.gov and our CityofQuincy twitter feed for the latest updates, and know that we're going to get this project done as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime, the DPW and QPD recommend that residents drive along this area at no greater than 25MPH. Doing so helps protect your vehicle and reduce reverberations experienced by neighbors in the area.

  Hi folks,

  Sorry for the delay. The bid for the contract is going to open in early April (it's available for construction companies to download starting tomorrow). We are going to push to get the construction going as fast as we possibly can, and the target for the start of construction is early May.

  Would be greatly appreciated if---at the very least--- you could send a street sweeper down to clear the side of the road of gravel and debris. One person sweeping the remaining fill off the sidewalk should not take more than 20 minutes for the entire stretch.

  We're going to be starting repaving tomorrow. The work should be done by April 24th. Traffic won't be diverted - we'll have one lane open at all times, with a police detail on both ends directing traffic appropriately.

  And now it's been 28 days since the 'repaving' began. Actually, Chris, it wasn't 'repaving' that was done, but more accurately, GTA was doing 'trench re-stabilization'. We've been dealing with a road that rivals Range Rover's test course since prior to Thanksgiving. Empty promises of solutions. This is simply UNACCEPTABLE. WHEN will the new company, Derbes Brothers be REPAVING????? This wouldn't happen in the other areas of our city. The other residents wouldn't put up with it.

  Although things like this may not go on in other cities/towns, it would happen other places in the city of Quincy and has for that matter. As I said before, it took them about 6 months to pave Center Street after digging it up. As I also said before, Quincy DPW needs to get their act together and learn from past mismanagement of similar projects instead of repeating failures. The fact that they keep operating the same way tells me that A) they are inept and don't have the ability to manage these projects or B) they just don't give a damn if residents tear up their cars on city roads or C) all of the above. If I were you I'd call the mayor and demand answers and action
