This building helps define blight.
I've called a dozen times. We've had the city come out and inspect it because the roof is caving in. I have e-mails from one bureaucrat after another exonerating themselves from any responsibility and generally blaming :L & I. I too have called about the windows falling out and gitting parked cars. This wall was called in months ago.
Currently, threre is graphitti on the 8th Street side of property.
Because of the owed back taxes, the building can be placed on auction. The owner is distant, and his name is Lay Sain or Sarin Lay. I went to L & I (for other reasons) but asked them about the property - it became clear that they are going to do absolutely nothing to the property.
The only way anything gets done in this neighborhood is that the residents do something. For example, the trashcan on 8th and Federal is owned by a resident and maintained by a resident - the city has nothing to do with it. The only thing the city would do is cut the trashcan off and take it.
Mostly the block is covered in garbage all the time....it is cleaned up by two residents on the block while the rest of them sit there and do nothing to help out.
The residents simply have to do something. I would be willing to kick some money in to get the space on the auction block and town down.

We had L & I out a couple of weeks citing that building, 1155 S. 8th and the other abandon building at 8th and Annin.
Several of the neighbors have joined forces and have been bombarding Squilla et al with letters and e-mails.
We have been informed by L & I that the house you are referring to is going to Sheriff's sale in June. Hopefully the new owner will tear it down, or we will have him cited again and again....
