And? Welcome to the new north end!
Investors are buying these houses slapping up more bedrooms and getting $900 a month
Or in some places I think they’re literally just renting out rooms like a house on my street. I feel like they’re doing that five bedrooms, seven cars.
And it’s being gotten away with roads are jammed with cars, the speeding and us homeowners who pay taxes not our parents like most of these kids ,have to suffer
Because the city allows us to continue
Just like commercial vehicles parking in residential neighborhoods all over the north end, the mayors office and his police department for years have been turning a blind eye to landlords renting to more than four unrelated students in the north end. Even though it is reported with addresses over and over. There must be payola coming from Sacred Heart to somebody. Remember north end residents, there is a mayoral election in November. And keep reporting landlord violations, and save your documentation. maybe the Connecticut post or channel 8 news or channel 12 news would be interested.
Thank you for reporting the issue to the City of Bridgeport, of more than four non-related Sacred Heart students residing at the mentioned address. Please know that the information was emailed to the city's Zoning office for an investigation to be done.
We said this is happening all over the north end of Bridgeport because of Sacred Heart excepting students over their capacity to house them. 5+ students just reported living on Anton Street. This is going on all over the north end. Reported to the state health department, because the Bridgeport police, the mayors office, and the Bridgeport health department will do nothing about this. Also try channel 8 news, channel 12 news and the Connecticut post.
Sorry, that should say Sacred Heart accepting more students that they can possibly house, not excepting. Darn auto, correct! Sacred Heart should only be allowed to accept what they can reasonably house on campus housing. They are destroying the north end with this, and I know a lot of north end residents are at a breaking point. This is not a good situation.
Hellen Keller- you need to look at things objectively. Remove all emotion from your comments as they hold little value for anyone.
This is how the equation works- investor buys house, investor pulls permits for renovating said house. Value of house and taxes then increases for the house. Value increases for neighboring houses, and north end neighborhood.
Students renting the house then spends their money/ parents money on food, groceries and miscellaneous items in the north end stores, supporting the local economy in a much greater amount than your average fixed income home owner.
Once you understand the metrics of the north end micro economy you will understand why the school will continue to grow. It’s a mutually beneficial endeavor for all parties.
HIghly doubt that the investors are pulling permits for renovations. Compare the Bridgeport GIS map for tax basis against what rental is for. They are not pulling permits!
What’s sad is last night was Halloween our neighbor use to be full of kids now the only kids are college students
I save money on not buying candy but it was so quiet out last night it was kinda sad
The only permits I’ve ever seen posted on any other construction around here is the new real estate house at the corner of Madison and Eckart
And I’ve never seen anybody do an inspection after the work has been done around here
Again- just because you haven’t seen it, Lisa doesn’t mean it’s not getting done. Just because you haven’t seen the permit posted on the front door, does not mean they don’t have one. Inspections can be scheduled at any time during business hours. Before making comments like this, understand the process.
As mentioned earlier, I highly doubt permits are being issued because when you look at the GIS maps for the tax basis, the bedrooms shown are much lower than what the house actually has. I have been privy to a house that has permits that are still open but work has been completed for over two years. So I do understand there is no process or follow up
