Broadway light does not recognize bicycles: when I wait at the light on my bike to turn left from Broadway onto Plymouth Rd (west, towards Downtown), the light does not change. Please re-time this light or add sensors for bicycles.

Rob: do you want the city to spend millions so that bicycles can be recognized or are there much simpler solutions? Crossing the street, then push the pedestrian crossing buttons and utilizing the sidewalk for a short distance is an effective and cheap solution.

Hi all, I wasn't going to weigh in here but I felt obligated to mention that I commute on a cargo e-bike that weighs 75 pounds and is 3-4 feet wide. With me on it, it's 250+ lb moving at 15-20mph so I promise you don't want me on your sidewalk while you're walking your dog or going for a run :)

Good to know, Nishant. I think the city has promised to add sensors for bikes at various lights, but needless to say it is a work in progress. Thanks for pointing out this particular location. Southbound State at Stimson needs a bike sensor as well. Maybe I’ll follow your lead.

Oh Marcus, give me some credit. Turn signals don’t recognize bicycles as they are metal sensing and the bike doesn’t contain enough metal to trigger the sensor. Digging up all the turn lanes to install better sensors is a waste of funds to resolve a problem the is insignificant compared to other issues.

Well, yes, I'm either waiting for a car to trigger the light or running the red. It's a lousy system. I prefer regular timed lights which are less "efficient", but more equitable without spending more money on traffic controls (which are already bleeding us dry so we can "save time").

Just be like most other bike riders and ignore the laws. I see bike riders blowing through stop signs and red lights swerving through parking lots just to maintain momentum. God forbid motor vehicle drivers do this.
