Per the meeting report: A traffic engineer stated that the ordinance does not have leeway for deviation. The Earhart Subdivision was designed within the intent of this ordinance. (Chapter 40)

A Community Standards Officer responded to this location on 3/21/2024 and issued the property a notice of violation. A follow up was conducted on 3/27/2024 and the property was in compliance.

As stated in the DESCRIPTION, the complaint area is from the eastern intersection of Waldenwood and Penberton to the western intersection of Waldenwood and Penberton. It includes four active crosswalks. A2 Fix It only allows one address, thus assigned 3935 Waldenwood.

The complaint area is not in compliance as of 4/4/24 and it is unreasonable for me to enter a ticket for each address in the complaint area. Please direct community standards to inspect ALL properties in the complaint area. Thank you.

A Community Standards Officer issued notices of violation to 3915 Waldenwood, 3930 Waldenwood, 3900 Waldenwood and 3991 Penberton on 4/8/2024. 3900 Waldenwood asked for a time extension which was granted and honored. A follow up on the other three properties took place on 4/12/2024 and those properties were in compliance. On 4/23/2024 3900 Waldenwood was followed up on and that property was in complaince.

The vegetation is overgrown in the public right of way throughout the area creating a dangerous situation for pedestrians, especially in the afternoon when school children are present.

This is a photo of one of the crosswalks. The vegetation is trimmed around the sign, but at least six feet of vegetation is growing between the sign and the public walkway. A driver may expect pedestrians at the crosswalk sign, not hidden "behind" the vegetation. Please enforce the ordinance.

We had an officer go out on 4/30/34 and did not observe the violations. Please contact Community Standards at 734-794-6942 to discuss this matter.

Thanks to Community Standards staff for meeting me at the site on Thursday, May 2, and explaining the constraints to providing a safe environment. The city has been considering revisions to the Chapter 40 ordinance for more than two years. It is time for clear direction from the Mayor to improve pedestrian safety with respect to sight distance and sidewalks and public right of ways free of overgrown vegetation.
Most other communities do not have these unsafe conditions. Let's work together to revise Chapter 40 and ensure consistent enforcement ASAP.
