What harm is being done? What rule are we saying is being violated? The park is currently open at this hour. Who are we to dictate how someone who is doing no harm towards others can make use of a public space? What's next? Outlaw bounce houses and picnics?
Dave;
do you have a home? is it warm when cold out? is it quiet enough to sleep? be thankful for the largest part, that has very little to do with what you do. this person is likely homeless and put the tent on the vent at night for the warm and/or white noise from the creek below. i'm curious as to how this actually causes you harm. it might soften your conservativism if you were to go down, take the person a snack and talk with them for an hour. Likely, your wouldn't be able to distance yourself to the point of demanding the tent be removed.

Easy to be tolerant if it is a public space! How about if someone camps out in front of ur house? It at the playground at night? I'm bothered by homeless people. And it has nothing to do with me not being compassionate.
It may have more to do with being present your own suffering. Its there where you see the causes and conditions that drive homelessness. As you lay in comfort others lay in suffering and it hurts, even tears down the spirit. There situation, as is our own has little to do with self responsibility or innate traits and much to do with social economic and spiritual problems within our culture. May you find peace and, if not, just know the homeless are ceaselessly bothered with the conditions of their lives. They need less of our compassion and more practical shelter, food and a kindness or smile to touch their spirit for a moment.
