this is a situation of a neglected roadway. Before this awful winter the top surface of the road was missing in numerous spots. Now the craters are everywhere, this is a heavily traveled road because of the high school and the senior citizen housing development. The town needs to address this problem now. I realize that it is hard to fix permanently during the winter but I hope they are planning to scrap it and repave during the summer. We need to send our repair bills to the town.

I started calling the Town of Brookhaven Highway Dept about Smith Rd in Lake Ronkonkoma on 8/11/09, about the potholes on the Road. Then called again on 9/25/09 and was told a work order was assigned to this case #09-11274. I told them the road is horrible with potholes and should be repaved. I was told a request for a foreman to go out and look at the road was in, as it might be best to repave it. I was told to call back in 2 weeks. On 10/19/09 I called again and was told it was referred to a foreman on 10/5/09 and the foreman agrees the road needs resurfacing and is a high priority! Called again on 11/5/09 and was told the road needs repaving but, repaving ends in November due to the cold weather. The road should then be on the spring schedule. They will send a crew for pothole repair.
Well, here it is raining again 3/13/10 and the potholes will be bigger!

Hi John, A pleasant surprise to see a comment from someone I know (St. Eliz.) It sounds as though you have put a lot of effort into this, unlike me who gave up after the nasty phone responses I got. I did try to see if Brookhaven Town had an email I could send all these comments to, but didn't find such a method of contact. I will try to print this page and send it to the Supervisors office via snail mail. Thanks for your effort.

The potholes have been fixed, finally. Unfortunately, it seems like a temporary fix.
