Frankly Madam this is not my neighborhood but I would advise those affected to do much more, which is to file suit, haul the city into court over this. This may accomplish two things:the city might pay attention to what they do in regards to creating stuff like this in the future, and the folks affected might get compensation to deal with the problem in some way themselves. That is what I would recommend, but it is doubtful that will happen in this case, and if not, then city hall continues to cruise between the raindrops, unfortunately....

This service has asked me to close this issue. I cannot in good conscience do so. The underlying condtion remains and was a result of past performance in city DPW, which the previous Mayor decided not to fix, nor to appoint someone to head that department that would not be so quick to allow the repeat of such mistakes. The current head of DPW was appointed illegally per City Charter 110(1-3), with the illegal assent of the city council. I think these underlying issues deserve clarification as to what the current condition there is in leadership as well as the history of the running of DPW. We have heard notions of "DPW reform" for almost as long, it seems, as it has been since Henry Hudson sailed up the river and named it after himself. Obviously nothing has changed nor will it change.

I will NEVER close this issue. The principle is very simple:stop building the road up above curbs--or if you do, also build up the curbs. Flooding inevitably WILL result whenever and wherever this is done if the curbs are not also built up when this is done. "Government intellgence", the proverbial oxymoron. Another fix is to REDUCE the roadway where it has built up. This involves the process of milling. If the head of DPW, Mr. Schupp, had any sense(and we hear through the grapevine he has little sense if any--then what he would do is set priorities as to where such work should be done and start doing it inasmuch as state aid came through for road repair so apparently that is not the issue it was or to the extent it was. Also, placement of speed bumps AT intersections are NEVER a good idea--this violates the very BASICS of sound road engineering but Kingston, NY can do that quite easily and the putz who did this at Penn Ct. and Flatbush needs his head examined and then thrown into the river.

I encourage your persistence, but perhaps you might consider other means that might get you more successfully to your ends. I fought for several years to have my street repaved - and they finally did so - and they milled the street down first - so flooding is not an issue (and I live downhill, so it could be a major problem. Throwing accusations and blame around generally gets you ignored.

You have a new Alderman - Doug Koop (assuming you are in Ward 2 - which I think you are) , and a new mayor. See if he can help you get your issue some attention. Don't expect quick action, as many people would like their streets paved - and you need to have it milled and paved. But persistence does work!

I agree with your diagnosis of the road and prescription for its repair as these are accurate. As for your diagnosis of me, I don't agree. I deal in facts and have simply stated these. The other thing is that a friend lives in Ward 2, which is where this condition was first seen. Physically, one cannot pile on layer upon layer of road, have this swell above the curbline, and then avoid water spilling over the curb as a result.
Even though the crisis portion of this matter has passed, the condition that brought it on remains, and thus, the issue shall--reasonably--remain open.
