Description

The New Haven Fire Department is inspecting fire hydrants. This is done twice per year. Inspections are typically done ahead of colder weather. It is not our normal operating standard to open and flush hydrants however, there may be instances where the Commanding Officer determines it must be done.

As was the case today in the St. Ronan area as hydrant was briefly opened and flushed and resulted in the discoloration to some residential water. This can be cleared up by opening your taps until the water is clear.

This was an unusual circumstance and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. These inspections are absolutely necessary to make certain in the event of a fire that we have an adequate water supply.
