Description

The vandalism of the street trees along Lake Merritt Blvd (between Oak St and E. 12th St) has continued despite this issue being reported to the city more than a year ago. Large branches and in some cases the entire upper portions of trunks are being broken off of these trees. The regular and repeated occurrence of this problem over several years seems to indicate the activity of a single person rather than random acts by different individuals. It seems like it would not be difficult for the city to identify this person using either video cameras or regular police patrols. I usually notice new damage in the early mornings. Thus the vandalism is most likely occurring at night. Please prioritize this issue before the city's investment in these trees is completely lost.
