(posted on behalf of Assistant Chief Luke Williams, SPPD) Thank you for your SeeClickFix dated March 4th, 2016. Chief Holloway has asked me to respond directly to you regarding a traffic incident with a Police Department cruiser. On the date in question, you stated that one of our cruiser’s “sped through a yellow light, proceed to stop at a red light, and then immediately made a right turn and start to make another U-Turn to avoid a traffic control device”. Your concern was that this cruiser also exceeded the posted speed limit in a school zone. Research into the matter showed that the cruiser was responding to a just occurred motor vehicle accident with injuries to the occupants. This cruiser was responding to that location and the call for service is documented and coincides with our Police Department calls for service data base. The cruiser eventually was called off this call, as other units reached the scene and did not need any additional assistance. The operator of the vehicle was also spoken to about the public’s perception, as it relates to responding to calls for service.
