This crosswalk is one I have to cross every day. Although I look carefully to see if there are oncoming cars before entering the crosswalk, I often have to run to avoid being hit while i am in it. The cars are going very fast as they come around a corner which limits their visibility and mine. Someone will get hurt here.

I absolutely agree with this concern. The visibility is a big issue - it's hard to see cars coming around the curve and determine how fast they are coming. I continue to see more and more pedestrians through this area (yay!), which means the potential for an accident grows greater all the time.

A couple years ago I raised this issue on SeeClickFix. In response, the crosswalk was repainted and pedestrian crossing signs were placed on each side. At first I was very happy with this response, but it made no difference.

What is needed is a flashing light notifying drivers of a decrease in speed/upcoming crosswalk. Or even a stop light. Someone without good mobility or balance cannot cross here at all. You have to move too fast at times when a car is barreling towards you.

Part of the issue is the limited sight distance at Franklin due to the Farm's plantings. I would highly recommend a solution that takes that into account. Along with some traffic calming just north of the curve on Blount.

There were two level brick apartment buildings there before, I don't think the farm is the problem, nor do I think the solution is to be found in worrying about plants. There has always been a visibility issue around that curve and that won't change. The issue is that cars come onto Blount as if it were a freeway through downtown, and pedestrian traffic has increased so it is becoming a very dangerous situation.

This is still a deathtrap. I'd like to leave this issue open.

I come through this crosswalk in the morning, between 7 and 8 am. The vehicles are normally speeding when they come around the curve and usually do not slow down when someone is in the crosswalk - they just dodge by.

It would help if an officer was stationed here on a regular basis and handed out tickets for either speeding or not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalk. Drivers need to be re-educated that pedestrians have rights and the only way to do it is enforcement. Until that happens it won't change.

That's a great idea, Julie. I agree. People don't seem to understand the law regarding these sorts of crosswalks. I hope the city will respond to this.

Even though this was assigned in April, nothing has been done. That was 9 months ago.

This is a state maintained road, so maybe getting the NC DOT involved would help. Though they dismissed my request for a button-activated crosswalk further up the road at Wake Forest and Frank a few years ago.

I saw an elderly gentleman with a cane cross here and the cars almost ran him over.

This issue has not been resolved. I was nearly mowed down by a speeding car this week. The light near the branch off to Blount St South does nothing for those of us in the cross walk around the corner. Someone is going to die here. I have mobility issues and feel like I'm taking my life in my hands every time I cross there.

There needs to be a light to cross at Blount and Franklin.

I use that crosswalk often and it is dangerous. Part of the problem I noticed recently as a driver, is that from late afternoon to evening, at least in the summer months, the sun makes it very difficult to see that light. I hustle across there regularly and even I almost drove right through it the other day because of limited visibility from the sun. Not sure how that can be addressed but did want to point it out.

Hmmm, so you live in Knightdale, but clearly are an expert in pedestrian needs Downtown. Did you know that this is the nearest crosswalk across Blount to the Person St Corridor businesses for those with limited mobility who live at the Capitol Park Senior Center? Not to mention the rest of us who may have mobility challenges necessitating use of this crosswalk rather than walking another half mile out of our way and doubling back again to get to the businesses at Person St Plaza. We blame the drivers who ignore the crosswalk in which pedestrians have the right away. This is a City matter since the right if way is being ignored. Go troll somewhere else.
