I understand your concern about safety with the signal going to yellow before you have completed crossing the intersection. When you are crossing an intersection the signal cycles through three different indications. Vehicles receive green time which varies based on vehicle demand. Next they receive a yellow clearance time which allows vehicles enough time to choose to proceed though the light or stop. Then they receive an all red time where all approaches are stopped and vehicles have enough time to clear the intersection if they have passed the stopbar before main street traffic receives a green indication and are allowed to go. If a bicycle is in the intersection during the yellow phase depending on the speed of the bicycle the combination of yellow and all red time should allow adequate time to safely clear the intersection.
