The sidewalk on the west side of El Camino Real between Howard Avenue and Newlands Avenue isn't very high at all on some parts of the block. It's so low that it looks like a driveway. A car driving on El Camino Real could easily veer up onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian. Can this be fixed?

Hi Michelle,
Thank you for reaching out to us with sidewalk issues along El Camino Real. The City is well aware of the sidewalk issues along El Camino Real including the curb and gutters. El Camino Real is within the State's jurisdiction since it's a State Route and Caltrans is the agency responsible. The City's agreement with Caltrans is for patching hazards with asphalt concrete. Anything beyond patching requires the property owner of parcels fronting the issue and Caltrans to repair.
The City has been in discussions with Caltrans and has established a Task Force to develop action plans to address issues such as sidewalk improvement.
In the meantime, if there are specific areas that you would like for us to look at, please provide picture or description of location. If we are unable to resolve the issue with just patching, we can notify Caltrans.
If your concern is wider than just one or two locations, please contact Caltrans' Public Information Officer, Gidget Navarro at Navarro, gidget.navarro@dot.ca.gov or call their local office at 650-358-4127.
