This park is in complete disarray. All of the graffiti at the Broadway 580 exit, wherever it is marked "Indigenous Land" can be attributed to the people that live in this park. I have witnessed them tagging the overpass on numerous occasions. The park is dangerous and is becoming a home to prostitutes, drug dealers, vagrants, and criminals. They break into cars on a near daily basis, and we find trash that I don't even want to describe. The city of Oakland needs to clean this place up and start issuing summonses for this type of behavior. Otherwise, it will just continue. These people think they have a right to live on, and deface public property. Their only home should be the city jail.

You are so right. The city needs to be died for allowing the homeless to create unsafe, unsanitary situations. I have no more compassion for most of these people. Being homeless does not give them the right to break the laws. Give them community service because they have way too much time on their hands. Have them clean up their crap, paint the graffiti, do something. If they don't I'd rather pay for them to be in a jail cell, then giving them a free ride

It's always, "Oh yeah, the City will clean it up".... These people have been living here for years! They literally feel entitled to the entire place. What more does "indigenous land" mean? I realize we live in a place that respects the rights of homeless and less fortunate people. But they have to respect the city and community as well! Based on the type of behavior I witness on a daily basis, there is not an ounce of respect for the community or the laws that govern us. It's time for action.

For City of Oakland - When you "clean up the park", do you also bring the police to write tickets and enforce the law? Or do you simply do your "cleaning" and move on?

Someone in Oakland needs to be held accountable for allowing these encampments to continue. I to have seen the homeless graffiti walls, they do illegal dumping, they do break into cars, they do drugs, they start fires, and I blame the city leaders that are in denial. BEING HOMELESS DOES NOT GIVE PERMISSION TO BE ABOVE THE LAW. Wake up OAKLAND, THE HOMELESS ARE PLAYING YOU

The problem that needs to be fixed, is the one where public works cleans up these encampments And than they are allowed to return within a matter of minutes. To me a 72 hr notice is an eviction notice. So why isn't it treated as one. When one is evicted they can't come back, but guess it's okay for the homeless because no rules are enforced with them. Chang this. 72hr notice means no return also

Well, i just wrote an email to the council member for district 2, which includes this park. Her name is Lynette McElhaney, email lmcelhaney@oaklandnet.com. I encourage us to email frequently to highlight the problems posed by this issue. We need action, and it will only happen if we speak up.

Good luck.. I've emailed her several times about homeless encampments and had no response. I also wrote her office, no response. But maybe is enough people send her a message she'll wake up.

Bras11.. I just sent an email also to Ms. McElhaney. Hopefully all who read this issue will do the same. I've heard that she is on the homeless people side, but she needs to learn that these people are not on a camping trip, these encampments are unsafe and dangerous. Excuses need to stop
