Description
here we go again...new complaint:
5 minutes ago several of the basketballers playing at this intersection crossed the street and did some gratuitous damage to my garden...they were seen from the window by me throwing rocks at the fish in the water feature and they broke several leaves off the hosta plants surrounding it, leaving them lying on the sidewalk.
i'm getting totally fed up with this disturbing and destructive behavior. instead of relaxing at home i now have to maintain near constant vigilance over my property when this undisciplined and unsupervised group is present. is this the way life should be?
after checking the level of damage i spoke to the entire group and asked them to leave my property alone, then warned them the cops would be called immediately if i saw them anywhere near the garden. this time i sent an email to janine kaserman instead of making that call.
i'm in my mid-70's and have already had 2 heart attacks. the stress these kids are causing is elder abuse. am i required to tolerate this in order to be considered a good neighbor?
i need some effective help to resolve this issue. first it was noise and kids out after curfew (9pm)...now it's actual damage. where will this end?
my previous complaint is listed on this site under "noise."

Agreed. This seems like a legitimate issue that should be taken seriously and properly addressed by the police, once and for all. There are appropriate public places available nearby where kids can gather to play basketball. Gathering and playing in the street on a regular basis shouldn't be allowed, nor should anyone get away with damaging and threatening any citizen's property or pets.
Record video the next time this happens so you can show proof of the punks' bad behavior.
Won't your neighbor remove the hoop since it's caused so much trouble?

Well, I wouldn't say these kids are punks...they're just city kids doing stupid things...to me it seems more like ignorance than malice...they need education and parental oversight, not a police record. If they were kids from this neighborhood, which they are not, I would talk to their parents first and hope that would be the end of it. Since I don't know who they are or where they're from that's not an option.
I have no idea why that hoop remains facing the street and encouraging public use, tho' I suspect his intentions are good. The lack of supervision and discipline are what is troubling about this situation.
