I used to work a night job. Good Luck with the loud neighbors. They may all be deaf by now. I hope someday there will be better laws about noise in our environments.

I'm not certain about the noise emanating from houses, but there is an ordinance against any music from automobiles- "music must be contained to a distance of no more than 50 feet from the vehicle."

OK so I just got on here to report this same house and was surprised to see it's already been reported. I called up Raleigh Police and was told that I can't complain because the ordinance only applies between 11PM and 7AM. I'm 8 houses down and I can hear the music clearly inside my house. The guy's always outside blasting music from that car while he's cleaning it and today is no different. He's got all of the SUV's doors wide open blasting his rock music again. I work nights and there's no way I can sleep with that racket going on. It's true what the reporter says. Whenever officers DO come out for any noise complaints, they just drive by with their windows up and drive off without so much as stopping. I've had to call them back and tell the dispatcher to request the officers go up to the houses. It's like noise issues don't really matter.

I live two streets away from this house and this afternoon around 3:30 the music could be heard at my house and it was too loud at this distance.

Karla, what the RPD officers told you is incorrect (or, more likely, you spoke with a dispatcher who was misinformed). The noise ordinance applies 24 hours a day. Only the threshold changes during the night hours.

Noise is a quality of life issue. I suggest you politely continue to insist that something be done. Good luck!

Lt. Jones is aware of this complaint but really needs a call when the problem is occurring. There is a 24-hour ordinance in place as Mr. Turner indicates that is less restrictive between 7 am and 11 pm, but is in effect all day long. The district station number is 919-996-4455.
