This is an overlay of asphalt over the concrete and there is nothing wrong with the storm structure or grate. The height difference it because the overlay raised the road. Again there is nothing wrong with the storm structure.

Yes the grate is solidly in place. The problem that we have is that when the road was resurfaced, the structure was not raised flush with the new surface. It is a significant drop off and trip hazard.

Last fall, City workers came and saw cut the perimeter of this grate and acknowledged that it needed to be brought up to grade. They said they would return in the spring time do the work after they checked with a contractor about mud jacking to solve the problem. Since that wasn’t feasible, they said it would need to happen in the spring.

The trip hazard is really bad, and damage has been done to cars. This needs a fix!!

The catch basin is lower because the street was overlaid. This causes the catch basins to be lower than the road. There is nothing wrong with the catch basin in road right of way.

As a council member I am embarrassed by this thread in A2 Fix It. Please refer this ticket to a staff member in street maintenance who understands the problem and has the authority to FIX IT. Thanks.

Ms. Lamb, I apologize that this issue has not been satisfactorily addressed. A crew will move the grate away from your driveway in the coming weeks. Please note that as part of the work, the area in front of your drive will be temporarily patched until spring when a permanent asphalt repair can be made.
