There is a lot of traffic at the house near the corner of Lake St. and Sherman St. Is there any way to make parking legal on only one side of the street?

Ha haha. I guess you people think you're so funny. Really you are ignorant to the truth. No one is selling drugs here. They are simply visiting a family member or friend that has cancer. I think that people that make discriminating comments should think twice before they jump to conclusions.
I love that when given theopportunity to fix something in the City people want to make it illegal to park on both sides of a street because a house has too many visitors. This house that is apparantly the problem is my grandparents house and they have 11 living children with spouses and children of there own. Should we really be punished or ridiculed because we are close and enjoy to visit with each other especially in this time when my grandfather the rock in my family is sick with cancer. How about worrying about real problems instead of always trying to mess with people who arent doing anything wrong. Thank you
I could care less what happens at the house but it's a matter of a safe, clear, street to drive on. Have some courtesy for other drivers and try to park on the same side as the other cars.
Worst case: A fire breaks out and the fire truck can't get by, then what? Are you going to tell the people whose house burns down that you wanted to park as close as you could to your house and didn't want to walk an extra few feet to park on the same side of the road as the other cars???
I guess courtesy is just way too hard to find these days...
Why is Sherman street just a problem for parking? Does anyone notice that Stone st., and every other small road in this town has cars parked on both sides? Nobody complains about that though do they??? Nope didn't think so.
Stephanie-Actually, there are quite a few complaints about other streets and parking on these forums. As far as the one we are discussing HERE goes, first of all, it's a bit disingenuous to use a sick relative as an excuse to endanger the neighbors by haphazard parking. It's not just the fact that residents near that corner park on both sides of the street, they often park on both sides of the street directly across from each other making it almost impossible for anyone else to get by or safely turn the corner. I also live on Sherman, and sorry your relative is ill, I hope he gets better, but that's no reason why others have to end up possibly injured because visitors are too lazy or inconsiderate to park with a bit of common sense. No one said don't park on Sherman, they would just like parking on Sherman with some common courtesy and thought.
Well maybe if there was only parking on one side of the street then we would only park on one side of the street. If the city of Oneida feels that it is a hazard for people to park on both sides of the street they would change it but they havent so obviously they dont.
Renee- Making it illegal to park only on one side won't make people park with more sense any more then they will stop at that stop sign, or the stop sign on Sherman and Williams. Again, how about common sense and courtesy? It doesn't say much for people when we have to make it a LAW to make people park with some consideration, and even If they did make it a law I'm pretty sure that the Oneida PD has better things to do then enforce it .I have room in my driveway for perhaps 6 vehicles but in the case of a b-day party or whatnot I have to have guests park on the street BUT I make sure they park on one side, not both, and certainly not obscuring an intersection and making it hazardous for my neighbors and other city residents.
I am not exactly sure who all of you people are who are saying that its a known drug house or how you would know but you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. This house like I have said before is my grandparents house and unless you are speaking of the radiation my grandfather is receiving for his cancer there arent any drugs in this house. Both my grandfather and grandmother have been members of this community for 50+ yrs and deserve a little respect and a lot less speculation and assumptions as to what goes on with them at their house.
you people who have an imagination and use it to make remarks about people of whom you know nothing about definately show your IQ level therefore in the U.S your opinion doesnt have a matter until youre thirteen years old...so theres no need to take this complaint seriously from a child
Renee- I don't care what goes on in the house as long as it doesn't affect the safety and well being of my family, friends, and neighbors outside your house. I'm pretty tired of hearing
" we've lived here ( add a number) 30, 50, 100 years" every time someone insists their rights are more important then others. My neighbor laid that BS on me the week after his kid stole a pumpkin from my yard and tools from my shed, according to him,his 30 plus years as a resident here were reason enough why I should have not called the Oneida PD. I've only lived here a few years and I pay my taxes. live quietly, and have every bit as much a right to live here as your family, but MY cars don't block the street .FYI, unless you want to be surrounded by vacant lots ands abandoned houses you might want to broaden your mind and accept the fact that people from other communities might purchase houses here, and their rights are every bit as important as yours.
DGP do you live in my parent's neighborhood because i know my dad is a very good neighbor to all.Did any of you complainer's stop and ask gramp's about this ? I really think doing or saying all this crap is out of line with out addressing him !!!! Dear Dispatch, How about a story on why the mayor and council refuse to fill the vacant police position. I know, you could interview each member of the council on this point. Thats news….

DGP- I am a daughter of the 220 Sherman St, if you have an issue feel free to call me @ 280-0228. AND I do have one question for you ----- Do you and your parents not have a special bond ? or is the internet just a way to hide who you are because any one of us, would help anyone not just blow alot of hot air.
DGP- Sherman Street is kind of tricky for parking. Out of courtesy, we do not park near either of the homes with handicapped people, as they need plenty of room to get on and off buses. (yes, even in the summer.)
We try to avoid parking directly across from one another whenever possible. Unfortunately, it isn't always possible. We also make people fix their cars if we see that they've parked too far out in the road.
As far as your example- that is not a danger. Several city vehicles, buses and tractor trailers get through on a daily basis. I own a truck and have no problems getting through.
Yes, sometimes you have to wait for another car to go through, but that's really not uncommon on side roads.
To the other posts... are you out of your mind?! My grandparents would flip their lids if anything like that went on there!
This is not against the people who reside at, or who are related to/friends of those who reside at the address...
Please, to anyone who feels the need to turn this into a gossip site, if you have a SERIOUS issue, do not just cry about it here, bring it to the authorities. This used to be a site where you could relate that others in the city were struggling with the same troubles, and a tool for the authorities. I doubt that the site is even taken seriously now, due to the misuse.
I see Sally has made her mark here, as well... get a life, dear. Or maybe write an ACTUAL LETTER to the dispatch, instead of posting it randomly and repeatedly on multiple sites. Contact the Mayor directly. As I have said before, he is very easy to speak with, and always open to suggestions.
Well said so true but i guess them saying my elderly parent's deal drug's hit several nerve's and again to all who have an issue my dad's number has never been unlisted and you will hang up with a smile because he is a wonderful man !!!!
Peggy-
My comment was not directed at you, either. It's directed at those who have no life, no mind of their own, and no facts to base their assumptions on. The misuse of this site will not help anyone. As far as I have read, you have been defending the people in question and yourself, (admittedly, I have not read all the posts, due to the fact that I have a life to keep me occupied, and not enough time to weed through the ridiculousness).
Please, keep the drama on Springer & Montell, and try to make this, once again, a useful site.
Wits end- if she was not talking to you then just leave it be dont keep it going and further most she is not one you wanna mess with trust me... and i just read all the comments about my GrandParents that house is NOT a drug house and that house has more love it then any of you nit wits will ever know.. They are really the only family i have had for the last 2 1/2 yrs and some of the stuff yall are saying is kinda stupid and sally i know for a fact that the cops are not watching that house and i happen to know one of the Cops that is very good friends with my grandfather so i think ya need to get ya head outta the butt and grow up trust me its not a drug house and for the parking if the city was gonna do something about it trust me they would have so get over it and leave them alone and let them be they are good family get it over unless you are jealous then thats your own fault "UGH"
