Sidewalks on East Side of Newton have cracked and split, NOT from frost heave but from Tree Roots,etc. causing trip hazards to ALL waklers/whel chairs. This was reported last year and 'temporary blacktop patching was done, but the issue persists closer to the tree's. Would appreciate a permanent fix by DPW this Sping. I, personally observed a woman who tripped her while the DPW repaired the street drains),,, ( Nice work), but she appeared un-injured.

two weeks have gone by since you forwarded this to ACO of DPW and there has been no response (nor action) to this situation. I know they're very busy, but a cordial response would be appreciated.

O.K. gentlemen, coming up on two MONTHS since this was first reported, and STILL no reaction from ACO or his staff at DPW. Repair these walkways of close this item with 'no resolution offered'.

We are coordinating several complex repairs/upgrades in this area that will impact the sidewalk. The intent is to develop a long turn fix that addresses several issues. We will update the status periodically.

TWO YEARS have passed since my original observation and notice however the sidewalk and roadway have continued to degrade. I strongly suggest Newton to Main be repaired/resurfaced this year if at all possible. thank you

You are correct it has been two years and we need a resolution. We are close to determining our course of action. We will have another stakeholder meeting to push this forward. We will update in a few weeks.

Another YEAR has gone by with NO REPAIRS to this sidewalk. Perhaps someone needs to bring this to the attention of the Commission on Disabilities because MANY wheel-chair bound people use this daily.

We are still trying to coordinate several complex repairs/upgrades in this area that will impact the sidewalk. The intent is to develop a long turn fix that addresses several issues. That being said, we will make a determination of action within the coming weeks and sidewalk repairs will start in the Spring.

DPW started working on this several months ago but then stopped , and little has been done in past two months. When will they complete the repairs to this area?

Preliminary work was completed. Engineering drawings needed to be developed and approved. Drawings and approval was just recently obtained. The final phase of work is scheduled to start mid September with a completion in October.

The only work done during Sept, was (1) tree root grinding - PLEASE finish the repairs!

The sidewalk and paving work have been completed. The plantings will be installed in the spring. There were a lot of issues with this project. Thank you for your patience.
