It is sickening to see people that drive up the right-turn only lane trying to turn on to Main St. It would be a great improvement in safety and a revenue source for the City of Oneida if the right-turn only sign was enforced.... Yes, the whole light and turn lane was made for the pharmacy only as stated by the NYSDOT back when the light was first put up.

I disagree Oneida Citizen. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the right hand only lane is for the next ROAD, not the next DRIVEWAY - by your reasoning then the right hand only lane for Main Street is really only to be used for a turn into the Savon? If it's right hand turn for Rite Aid only, then someone needs to specify that with a sign - as it stands now I think it makes more sense, and keeps traffic moving more smoothly, for it to be used as a right hand lane for Rite Aid or Main Street.

Sorry-but your assumption about my reasoning is not correct .. if you stop and look at WHERE the sign is and WHAT it is saying.......it does not indicate make a right hand turn when you decide you need to.... it says ,make a right hand turn at that point...otherwise , cars that are in the next lane on the left to the contested lane can not move right into the curbside lane and turn right on Main St. Anyone going straight thru said intersection is at risk of hitting any vehicles that are attempting to merge left and turn right on main street (check with any law enforcement officer )

You may be technically correct, and I do understand your point - I can see it both ways - which kind of proves my point that it's confusing. I still maintain it makes more sense, both common sense and traffic flow wise, to use it as a right hand turn for either Rite Aid or Main St. (but hey, I've never been able to figure out if school speed zones need to be obeyed during the summer months, so what do I know?) At any rate, no offense intended.

School speed zones are to be obeyed during regular school hours as posted on the signs. It also includes after school functions including but not limited to meetings, games, etc.

The Oneida police DO enforce this, to the tune of a $115 ticket after NYS tacks on their fees. The Oneida police actually have a quota for that particular spot. This despite the fact that official city vehicles have been observed "misusing" the intersection, and State Troopers ignore the issue altogether. Well over 90% of drivers use this intersection "incorrectly", probably because the turning lane was always for Main Street before the Rite Aid light was dropped in. People aren't doing this on purpose, they are simply interpreting a confusing situation in the way that seems safest to them. I have seen several turning lanes in other cities that have multiple driveways before the intersection. It is ridiculous that Rite Aid has its own turning lane, especially after it has closed for the night. If drivers were really interested in breaking the law, they would simply cut the corner through Rite Aid's parking lot, as "proper" use of the turning lane encourages them to do. If you want to get all technical, maybe you should note that the light and sign itself are placed AFTER the entrance to Rite Aid. There is not sufficient space to get over to the right after the light, particularly when competing with traffic coming out of SavOn, or turning right from Rite Aid. For the people who are so pleased with themselves that they can understand the nuances of traffic law, go give yourself a big smiley sticker. Personally, I think a simple signage change, making the center lane straight only and the right lane straight OR right at Rite Aid and than right only at Main Street would clear up the situation and make the most sense for traffic flow.
