Thank you for expressing your concerns to the City about the modifications that were recently introduced at this intersection when the roadway was resurfaced. The revised pavement markings and change in traffic control were necessary to bring the intersection into compliance with design standards that increase safety for all road users.

We note that the stop sign was installed at a location that enables motorists and bicyclists to make right turns to the right of the stop sign. We have requested that the stop sign location be adjusted and posts be added to prevent this movement immediately. After this adjustment, we expect that movements at the intersection should normalize and function similar to standard four-way stop-controlled intersections across the City with the same design. As is our general practice however, we will continue to monitor this intersection and will make any necessary adjustments for road-user safety should conditions warrant further intervention.

Please reference one or more reports with this intersection including the open "intersection of Pinellas Point Drive South and 25th way south Reconfiguration is now unsafe." In addition to the two corrections mentioned, is the eastbound bike lane approach to the stop going to be corrected "to current standards"? Vehicles turning southbound (right) should be perfoming the proper turn method of merging into the bike lan to turn, not executing a "hard right" and possibly clipping a cyclist. There should be dashed (not solid) lines at the outside bike line to the stop sign indicating this should (and will) occur.

It is still unclear why this configuration is necessary when (Westbound 66th right turn to northbouth 31st st. S comes to mind) is the same type of turn and lane scale, but did not have the turn lane removed as well.

The City of St Petersburg periodically reviews past reports that are made from citizens within our city limits, and in an effort to clean-up old issues that were resolved some time ago, we are marking as 'closed' those issues that were submitted in the past for which the work has been completed or the issue has otherwise been resolved.
