Description
Our backyard lies on route 34, and there is no guard railprotecting our property. We once had a car come through our back fence and go through our swingset. The guard rail that is in existance stops at our property. We just want the guard rail extened to protect our property and family.

Jessica,
Do you think you could drag the map marker to the correct location? To do this, go to the email confirmation you got when you reported the issue (the subject line should be something like “[SeeClickFix #35872] Thank you for reporting your issue”). In it, you will find a link that says “You can always update the issue here.” If you could then click on the link and drag the marker to the correct location on the map, that would be awesome.
Thanks!

As far as I know, highway guard rails are and always have been the exclusive purview of the state DOT. I don't think a private property owner would have the legal authority to extend a publicly owned guard rail even if they had the means and desire to do so.
Jessica, extending the guard rail is definitely a reasonable thing to ask the DOT to do. Finding funding for this sort of project could be somewhat challenging; I suspect that it may lie within a grey area someplace between what the state DOT can do as routine maintenance and larger projects that would merit dedicated funding. Based on my very limited experience, I think your best shot may be to get in touch with Conn DOT and just find out whether they anticipate undertaking any major safety improvements along Rt 34 in the near future.
I think Kevin Nursick is the person you want to ask about this. If you go to the Connecticut DOT website, you should be able to find his contact info.
