It's so dangerous through here during busy times of the day. People making left turns are passed at 40 miles an hour on the right, I wonder how often they get rear ended for having the nerve to make a left turn off the road. On the same issue, driving this stretch last friday as a car in front of me was stopped to make a left into the credit union I stopped till he'd gone, so oddly enough the traffic behind me did also. Just as he drove off and I and all the cars behind me proceeded, 2 kids could be seen walking on the shoulder of the road, right where they should be, facing the traffic. Now if we all would have swung around that car to pass him on the right, over on the shoulder, those kids wouldn't have had time to jump out of the way, and one of us would have hit them. I've often seen an older couple walk this stretch, the man with a blind man's white walking stick, and bikers could be on the shoulder too. This is why I try my hardest not to pass on the right, ever, but here in Barclay Heights, it is hard when that stream of cars coming is long. I definately agree that left turning lanes would make this area much safer, but I also think signs indicating that it's illegal to pass on the right over the white line, as well as a police presence willing to enforce it, would help slow down the traffic, and also break it up so that chances to make left turns are not so rare.
