Description
This lane is very confusing. I know it is illegal to "ride" a left turn lane, and pass driveways without actually turning left. Not sure if this applies to right turn lanes. There are 3 right turns possible from this right turn lane (2 driveways and Allen Rd). Some people get in the lane as soon as it starts and ride it to the end at Allen Road. I try to wait until I pass the last driveway (as long as no one behind me is trying to pass me on the right). Again, very dangerous when some cars are actually turning right into the driveways. These lanes should be separated by painted lines or even a small barrier (I've seen concrete curbs to seperate the lanes so that you can't "ride" the lane the entire length)

Actually you're the one creating an issue - it is perfectly legal to ride the right lane down to the signal, only at the signal does it become a right turn only lane.
Left turn lanes are okay as long as you are turning left at some point, if traffic is stopped in the though lanes it is okay to pass them to que for the signal.

My roommate received a ticket for passing stopped traffic to turn left at a light. The officer's reason was that he passed a driveway and didn't turn left at that driveway. It is also very dangerous because cars that are turning left out of a driveway from the other side of the road pull out when stopped traffic give them a clearing and don't see the person riding down the left lane coming.
I know that's not as a dangerous situation for a right turn lane, but to ride the whole 600 foot lane when there is no traffic que at the light makes no sense. This lane is ridiculously long, the reason is because it is obviously meant for turning into those driveways also, not all for Allen road traffic. Many people turn into the very first driveway to go to walmart/home depot and every day I see people slamming on there brakes for someone turning when they shouldn't have been in the turn lane yet to begin with. The one time I tried doing it, I got the finger from some guy trying to pull out of a driveway. Nowhere in this state have I seen a right turn lane like this. The ones that are long, have dividers or painted lines so you don't ride the whole thing and rear end someone trying to turn right into a different driveway.
I guess if your riding in your cozy little car commuting home to grosse ile, it's not a big deal for you. Try being on a motorcycle and dealing with these people that think they know how to drive, including you.
