Thanks, CE, I was trying not to overwhelm but this is my second eyesore area that is incredibly trashed. It has the same challenge of being a narrow strip making it challenging for volunteers to tackle. Really needs a road crew and a lane closing. Nothing has happened yet on the east end of the first area on Ledbetter/Loop 12. It does look like there has been some brush clearing on the west end closer beyond Westmoreland. I am hoping the activity continues east to Hwy 67 point.

I hesitate to close this issue as it has not been resolved 100%, though it does appear that 70% of the trash has been picked up in the area, including the large HVAC foil and pink insulation piece that had ben around for 6 months. The rest of the litter is entwined in the brush, which still needs to be cut back - perhaps as severely as the brush up the road by the aviation crew by the Executive airport - near Westmoreland and Ledbetter. It's BAAAACK! Although summer brush masks some of the problem, there are large limbs and lots of trash lining this gateway into Oak Cliff. ROAD CREW WHERE ARE YOU?

Barb you are right. Traffic conditions along this section make it too much of a liability to engage volunteers in the pick up. I did notice someone from aviation picking up trash on the south side of Ledbetter along the easement abutting the airport property. We keep one of our big city trash dumpsters near our front gate for trash that blows up. It is a constant challenge! Each of the homeowners along the north side have to police their section of the easement to keep it cleaned up. A bit of help from the city would be welcome.

This area keeps getting worse. Brush and trash everywhere...city crew needs to get out here!!!

It got better...now it is worse! Litter is massing again and at least one pile of brush dumped on very narrow parkway between road and overgrown shrubs. Maybe the city or TXDot need to put this on a monthly rotation?

Saw someone in a City of Dallas Aviation truck out picking up trash on the airport side of the street. One problem is that Ledbetter is on the route to the transfer station on Westmoreland. The full trucks seldom have any sort of screening over top of them and trash blows out. Another issue is people just tossing stuff from their vehicles as they drive by. Pedestrians also toss things. We tried putting a trash can within easy reach. Didn't work.

All of these observations, Karen, is why this area needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. Perhaps education is and issue as well. We would welcome trash/recycling worked into DISD curriculum to work from the kids on up! Also, if you go to the Keep Oak Cliff Beautiful facebook page you will see a link to KTB to report litterers, for what it is worth.

Danielle- Thanks for your comment. This is a sticky situation in a tricky area shared by the CoD and TXDot. This ongoing issue is NOT solved and should be addressed on a larger level. I appreciate your suggestions and will do these as well - but will keep this issue open here as long as it is still just that...an issue!

I keep meaning to post new photos...branches and TONS of trash. Winter die back really exposes this EYESORE and it would be a great time for TxDOT or City of Dallas to clean this up!!!

I did just post a 311 complaint, but TxDOT needs to be aware as well. They noted that the transfer station might be a contributing factor to the problem (combined with individual litterers).

City of Dallas called me to report they had performed a "courtesy cleaning" because the litter is actually the responsibility of TxDot. They did this soon after my call on 2/10. TRASHED AGAIN: Today, there are bags hanging in the scruffy underbrush and trash scattered about. In addition, someone has dumped branches and bags of trash. I will 311 this.

Also about this time, I also sent an email to the TxDot contact, Freddy Navarrette and copied the CoD Southwest Service Area Coordinator Kevin Acosta a request for TxDot to DEEP clean this area regularly, at least 4x a year. I suggested cutting back the underbrush which the trash clings to keep it cleaner longer. Also suggested posting signs about "Stash your Trash" and on a educational level, DISD work in an anti-litter piece in their curriculum working with Don't Mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful which have such available. I have not heard back from Mr Navarrette.

Another shot. There is also a lot of brush either dumped or falling branches (some quite large) very close to the road. This strip along the heavily used roadway is frequented by pedestrians and has somehow missed out on sidewalks. Walking can be quite challenging. have even seen some folks in wheelchairs or pushing baby strollers IN THE ROAD avoiding the impediments.

STILL a trouble area that needs MORE FREQUENT attention.

This hot spot continues to be an issue that needs a better plan from city and/or TXDot. Fallen tress need removing and trash building up.

GOOD GRIEF!!! Can NO ONE figure out a regular cleaning plan to keep this gateway to Oak Cliff clean or at least cleaner?!!!! Downed branchs, blow away trash, broken bottles, abandoned tires in the overgrown brush and parkway area.

I WISH I could close this issue. But NO SOLUTION or REGULAR EFFORT has taken place.

I put a couple of calls into Good Earth, the contractor who works with the city to clean litter up. Had to follow up a couple of times because receptionist had "to check to see if that is an area we cover."
On the 3rd or 4th call she said the supervisor confirmed it was. I asked if they could also trim the brush, as this contributes to the litter problem (something very obvious when viewing) but she said she would have to ask the supervisor. OY. This was a week or so ago. Nothing done yet. Guess I will make another call.

STILL an issue, needs regular grooming. IF I JUST HAD a reliable source/number to call, I would!

The City and or TxDot have done a nice job recently trimming back the brush and trees. SO KUDDOS to whomever did this. Trash and fallen limbs are collecting again, so this area needs continued sweeps. I will keep this issue open.

Still needs more regular clean up. Might be a volunteer group out to do a little work on Earth Day - but city/TxDOT need to work on scheduled DEEP cleanup in the new trimmed (THANKS!) shrubs.
