Description
After searching Title 12 of municipal code I could not determine whether the numerous sandwich signs on the sideway between the Gateway entrance and EricksonWinslow Way violate code. However, they are visual eyesores, occupy public space for private benefit, are not protected speech, and with few exceptions are not even in proximity to the businesses they advertise. The Barrecor sign stands out by its size and the fact that the business it promotes is nearly a mile from the sign's location.

The City’s sign codes are found in BIMC 15.08. Current code does allow these types of signs in the public right of way. The exception would be for public safety.
However, with several new supreme court rulings most of our sign code is unconstitutional and needs to be replaced. It is my understanding that council has that on its agenda.
