I believe that we need a separate safe place for bicycles to ride, whether it be bike lanes separated by short concrete barriers or up on existing grassy boulevards beside existing sidewalks. If we want to encourage physical activity we have to make it safe and convenient. Where we have sidewalks on boulevards separated from the street by strips of grass why not lay asphalt bike paths beside the sidewalks? They will be less bumpy than sidewalk blocks and keeping pedestrians on a separate sidewalk will make it safer for both. There should be some recognition that busy streets like 32 st and 30th avenue are really not a good place to take a lane out of service to incorporate a bike lane. This solution might work on the west side of 40th avenue from ross street out to the south end of sunnybrook but needs to be done without taking out the row of bushes that provides a sound and privacy barrier. Maybe just trim it back a bit.

You should run for council and better yet run for Mayor as you have solved the bike lane problems in red deer and obviously no one else is up for the jobs. Of course the best way to encourage physical activity is to force people to do it whether they want to or not is to force it on them. Lets not give them a choice. Lets squeeze them out of the road lanes and out of their cars onto the road and push a bicycle on them.They should have no choice on the matter it is better for their health and the environment. Who cares about squashing the majority. Minority rights are far too important. Who cares we live in a democracy. I think those communists had something - didn't they.

You can then be as popular and loved as one councillor I know.
