This is just a suggestion. I was thinking on my drive this morning that a very low cost improvement to the traffic at the intersection of Martin Rd and Zierdt Rd would be to reallocate the southbound *straight/right* lane to a *left/straight/right* lane. Currently the straight/right lane is usually empty because the left turn lane is so backed up that no one can get into the straight/right lane. By making the straight/right lane a left/straight/right lane, I would think the traffic would clear faster (especially since the Arsenal/Gate 7 can accept 3 lanes and allow folks to turn quicker. By the way, I turn right so I'm not trying to improve things for the "left turn" people at the expense of the "right turn" people :)

That got me thinking that you could probably do something similar for the eastbound lanes by making the left turn lane into a left/straight lane. That left lane is also empty in the mornings because the straight lane onto the Arsenal is usually backed up all the way to the Subway preventing anyone from turning left for 10-15 minutes. Making both lanes available to go onto the Arsenal would speed up the flow and allow folks who need to turn left to do so quicker.

Maybe this won't work but please avoid responding with anything about the ongoing Zierdt Rd construction/widening. We all know that's not going to be finished anytime soon and it's frustrating to hear the city use it as an excuse not to make needed improvements. No offense intended here.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
