We work closely with various City departments and local social service providers to address issues faced by our homeless population, and we also work with neighborhood associations to address the concerns they have, as well. Our Police Department has a Street Outreach Team that actively canvasses areas where the activities of the homeless are noticed, and they will continue doing so to ensure the safety of all citizens. Please immediately report any criminal activity or safety concerns to the SPPD directly by calling 727-893-7780 if not an emergency, or 911 if an emergency. Thank you.

(Interesting....when you call the homeless by what they really are this site blocks you) Only by being honest about who and what they are will we ever solve the problem! Feeding them does NOT solve the problem. It just enables them. Why do the homeless deserve more from our community than those of us who have worked our entire lives to be contributing citizens and now that we ask to live in a community without people urinating and defecating in public we are told the homeless services have been forwarded our complaints to which they do nothing but continue to support the homeless by feeding, clothing and advocating for them while we have to live amongst their filth!

I’m tired of this canned response from the city. It’s absolutely meaningless. I do call the Nonemergency number but the problem is constant. There needs to be an increased police presence in this area just like was done for the same mess at St Vincent DePaul. Enforce the public intoxication, loitering, trespassing laws and countless other ordinance violations. The police started parking outside of St Vincent and it cut the problem in half. They need more foot patrols to root out all the homeless camps around 4th Street as well. The city also needs to send out a sanitation crew weekly to pick up all the trash up and down 4th Street and along Booker Creek. And why is that guy allowed to live at the corner of 13th Ave S and 3rd St S? He’s been there for months. Ridiculous.

The man living at the corner of 13th Ave., South and 3rd St., South has not been there for months… He has been there for literally years! How long do you think he would’ve been allowed to live there if the Mayor lived across the street from him? Nothing is going to change unless we get together – in person. People have been complaining on this site for years about these exact same problems and the city just keeps ignoring us because we are south of central. This site probably won’t let me leave my email address but you can see my screen name… Add a 2 at the end and that is my email address at hot male. Notice there is no “E“ in the word Goldnwolf. Let’s try to get a group together and see what we can do to clean up this section of the neighborhood!

As an additional note… My 86-year-old parents used to come visit and would walk along third Street so they can see the boats etc. and frequently we would use the park benches for them to rest on. Now because the city removed the park benches which they had to do because the homeless were living on them, now my parents no longer can walk that distance because there is no place to sit and rest. We really are being held hostage by these lazy homeless people and by the bleeding heart advocates. It’s time for a change!

However, to further address these concerns, we're meeting with police department representatives and staff from the Salvation Army to develop a collaborative effort to remedy the issues.
