Thank you for contacting the Howard County DPW Bureau of Highways. This issue is now closed in Tell HoCo. If you require more information, please contact Department of Public Works Highways office 410-313-7450.
I want to note that I saw the flex posts installed today, but am still concerned that the roadway is too narrow on entry and exit to the traffic circle. NO LESS THAN 30 PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE BURST TIRES OR WORSE ON ENTERING OR EXITING THIS CIRCLE. My mother ripped the entire front passenger wheel off the axle, and while we were waiting for the tow truck about 6 people (some who don't even live in our neighborhood) stopped to say that they had done damage on the curbs. In the week following her accident I saw two other people stopped for repairs due to the same issue. I also had to have a wheel hub replaced right after the circle was installed years ago.
The problem is this: the roadways narrow as they meet the circle by about 4 feet. Drivers EXITING the circle at any speed beyond a crawl are pushed into the oncoming lane, so drivers ENTERING the circle at the same time hug the curb to avoid a collision and end up hitting the jutting drainage corners, resulting in tire/wheel damage and resultant repairs. If you check your records, you should find that you have had to move the drainage covers forward several times after they've been pushed in following an accident. I have reported this in the past on this site and was told that the roadway was "adequate". What is the threshold of damage that must be met to repair this circle?
