Thank you. Upon further investigation, this tree is actually on a median that is planted and maintained by the State of Florida. We do not perform maintenance nor plant unless the location is on City of Gainesville property.
I don't know what department handles what, or what is within Gainesville's jurisdiction, the county's, or the state's. I am relying on the experts in our local departments to route these requests to the pertinent units so work can be done.
I am sorry that you were unhappy with my first response. I will leave this issue open. I have reached out to the appropriate contact at DOT and we are going to investigate further. If DOT gives me the permission, I will get a tree in there as soon as next week. If it ends up being that, due to liability, they need to install it, they will get on that quickly as well. Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Good afternoon. FDOT has plans to get the trees replanted this summer. Ken Cheek at Florida Department of Transportation will be the point of contact for this project. He can be reached at 386-961-7453 and his email address is: Kenneth.Cheek@dot.state.fl.us
Hello, it's been almost a year-and-a-half since I first reported this. The summer is over and now it's fall 2019. Could a tree please be replanted? It's always sad to see a tree die, and even sadder to have it not be replaced. Thank you.
Good Morning,
I understand your concern about the dead tree that's in the median. However, this median is not a city median, meaning we do not have the ability to plant or remove trees from this median. This tree is maintained by Florida's Department of Transportation and Development. Ken Cheek will be the point of contact for any removals or plantings on state medians. I have reached out to him this morning and he will be getting back with me about this location.
If you would like to reach out to him directly, he can be reached at 386-961-7453. His email address is kenneth.cheek@dot.state.fl.us.

Please don't pass the buck and close the issue.
