Good afternoon these are called rapid flash warning signals. The pedestrian presses the signal button and the signals send a rapid back and forth signal to warn the motorist that there is a pedestrian crossing. Please slow down and stop to let the pedestrian finish crossing the street. Please heed the warning and yield to the pedestrian. City Electrician John Giardi

Wouldn't a RED LIGHT be more effective and SAFER for a pedestrian attempting to cross?? Hoping that drivers will heed the warning and SLOW to allow pedestrian to cross???

Good morning Barbara. It is a state law when a pedestrian is in a crosswalk the motorist shall yield to the pedestrian whether it be a yellow light or a red light. City Electrician John Giardi

Both of those lights are blocked from drivers view. Outbound you cant see the light or sign until your are almost at the crosswalk. Trees completely block the sign. Inbound there is a sign about 5 feet in front of the light that blocks the light from view. This is a poorly designed crosswalk I can see serious rear end accidents from drivers slamming on the breaks at the last minute

Drivers can not see these lights. Outbound blocked by trees inbound blocked by a sign. Very dangerous for drivers who will slam on the brakes at the last minute.
