Also, many drivers are not aware that they need to stop on the sensor for the light to turn green at all. They pull up into the crosswalk and sit and sit with cars piling up behind them---and then eventually run the light.
I agree Ben...the sensor is now on the light pole and scans at a certain area. The place where cars pull up is a good 2 car lengths ahead - which doesnt catch them in the eye of the sensor until someone else pulls up behind them.
