I agree that this landscaped islands need to be removed. With two schools within less than 3 blocks radius, this will be an accident waiting to happen as we approach the fall & winter months and shorter daylight.

Additionally, school buses drive through this area and narrowing this busy street to one lane will also add more traffic congestion in the area.

What was a public road became a parking space for this new building. Unbelievable!

this road is supposed to be 4 lanes, 2 on each side. What happened to that? Where is the original design - was this approved?

Actually, didn't this use to be 5 lanes, 2 north lanes and 1 north lane for west turns and 2 south lanes. And right now, the road shows 2 north lanes and 1 north lane for west turns which is a safety hazard.

It just seems unbelievable that the city would not address this serious issue ASAP. It has been terrible the entire time construction has been going on. How do the fire department, police departments which are so close and pass by all the time not take issue with this dangerous area?

Thank you for submitting this issue. The intersection of Marin Boulevard and 9th Street has the following lane designation. One (1) exclusive left-turn lane and two (2) exclusive through lanes in the northbound direction, and one (1) lane in the southbound direction. Parking is only permitted between the two curb extensions along the west side of Marin Boulevard just north of 8th Street.

Right now there is no exclusive left-turn (northbound) lane. Actually, there is a exclusive left-turn(northbound) lane painted into the roadway but that lane is used by southbound traffic if I recall correctly.

Correct. The exclusive left turn northbound ends up in the single south bound lane. If you take a right south on Marin you end up in that turn lane where someone is waiting to take a left to the school or into the parking lane where the islands appear at night without a reflector since technically you turn right into the right most lane.

Long story short one lane is gone and the same lane is southbound and exclusive left turn as painted.

The NB left turn lane and a separate SB lane remain. The confusion may be because of vehicles parking in the SB lane. If you see vehicles parked in this lane, please contact this office immediately and we will have the vehicles removed. Parking along the west side of Marin Blvd is prohibited except between 8th St and the mid-block curb extension.

Thanks Jennifer - you are correct. However, most cars I see drive the wrong way down the turning lane instead of driving in the correct southbound lane - the lanes may need to be repainted because it is worn down from the temporary construction.

Are you expecting people to merge in less than 20 feet, avoiding the curb ? There are no signs for parking either. Please keep open until lanes are painted asap and the signs put up clearly with merging markers. Else people will continue to park watching the mid block vehicles.

Also with school starting the worn down lanes make it difficult to know where and where you shouldn’t be and the crosswalks are nearly worn away. Construction crews have been parked each day where it was stated there is no parking. I understand they may need a place to park but it makes it very congested to drove down Marin. And with the few designated spots now people will be parallel parking and blocking traffic right near a fire house.

Prior to construction, one southbound receiving lane existed on Marin Boulevard south of 9th Street and a second southbound lane opened at the south approach of Marin Boulevard to 8th Street approach. In the current condition, one southbound receiving lane still exists south of 9th Street; however, there is now only one southbound lane approaching 8th Street.

Our office is aware of the illegal parking (which blocks the travel lane) occurring on Marin Boulevard south of 9th Street and we are working closely with the contractor to correct the issue.

Since it is acknowledged that the parking created by 485Marin is illegal, this needs to be removed ASAP. School starts this week and with two nearby elementary and middle school in the two blocks radius, I stressed, again, that this can be an accident waiting to happen due to the narrowing of the lane without warning (and illegal) .

Any update on this? I still see cars parked there (not their fault, there is no sign).

Every time I drive past here there are cars parked in the travel lane - please send parking enforcement occasionally.

The cars do not know its a travel lane as there are no signs.
