What a mess the intersection of Fruitvale and E. 12th has become! Going N., away from Alameda, the left lane has been turned into a left turn only lane (it used to be straight ahead or left turn, which worked just fine), which means traffic piles up in the right hand lane, because most of the traffic goes straight ahead there. Also, approaching Fruitvale on E. 12th coming away from downtown Oakland, under the BART tracks, there's a light which causes a huge traffic pileup when Fruitvale is blocked because of rush hour traffic, or because a train is passing or the drawbridge is up. Impatient drivers pull into the intersection and block it so that cross traffic can't get through, and sometimes one has to sit through 3 or more light changes! Ridiculous. My son actually got out of the car and directed traffic once so relieve the congestion. I'm not sure what to suggest here, but it's for sure something needs to be done.
