This dog is a red/brindle pit mix with a pink collar, and belongs to one of our homeless neighbors who typically stay at North Housing or near the pond at the end of Bette and Mitchell. The dog is loose several times each week, and while it hasn't been aggressive towards humans, no one is sure how it will react if it gets near our dogs, especially since it has seemed to follow some. Every time someone phones Animal Control, the dog is gone before the officer arrives, and we are told nothing can be done. The issue isn't that they're in the neighborhood, it's that people don't feel safe when they leave their house to walk down Bette, especially if they're walking their own dog. Everyone from APD to Animal Control to Homeless Liaison knows about the issue and the dog's owner because we've been reporting this for a couple months--how can we help get this resolved? If the issue is that they don't have a leash I'd be happy to provide one, because I don't want to see anyone separated from their furry companion by Animal Control unless it's really necessary.
In order to get an immediate response from APD you need to call our non emergency line at 337-8340. The area was checked today and the dog was not located.
