I'm requesting that this be changed. This intersection has a large number of elderly and low-mobility pedestrians (in part because of a large assisted living community in Wallingford), and I watch these pedestrians trying to cross daily. They have given up on the light because they have to navigate to a button, back to the curb cut, and then wait for the light. This intersection is a major issue for speeding traffic, red light running, and is hard to cross in one light cycle. Even minimal improvement will make it much safer for those who live near by. It's been a few months since the death of a pedestrian in Comm Ave at Griggs, and the city seems to have done nothing to address how dangerous Comm is for pedestrians, people on bikes, etc. Really, you need to do something about the constant speeding, red light violations, and cars rolling into crosswalks at lights, but I'm giving you an easy request here to make pedestrian signals default to on when possible. If you'd prefer to focus on active traffic calming, great, but something needs to be done. The way it is now isn't safe.

This location uses an exclusive pedestrian phase for pedestrian movements and monitored reports is that the button is pushed less than 50% of the time so the pedestrian pushbutton will need to be pushed to activate the "WALK" signal. BTD also uses a half cycle to cut down on delay at this intersection.
