There are many large dogs on the small dog side and this has been accepted by many dog owners for at least the past 8 years. Some people have nothing better to do but create untrue stories and insight others to complain. The large dog side has issues with the grasses which cause problems with the large dogs being able to run. Maybe the solution is to switch the sides for the large and small dogs. Small dogs do not run the entire park like the large dogs do. In fact some of the small dogs sit near the benches and do not run at all. This is not an issue with which sides dogs are allowed to be on. It is a personal issue for some of the dog owners sort of like the Democrats and Republicans.

Why are all opinions not acknowledged and printed concerning this issue. My comment gets flagged ???? I did not slander anyone and print a name, I did not use untrue comments, why am I flagged???

All summer large and small dogs were fine on the small dog side. Dogs and dog owners got along fine and coexisted with dogs using both sides of the park. Now that the "winter residents" return, there is a problem. The problem for the large dog owners is that large dogs run the entire park. The grasses on the large dog side has many issues with the feet of large dogs. The furthest area from the gate is unsafe for the large dogs to run. Small dogs generally sit near the benches and/or do not run the entire park (for the most part). The two sides should be reversed. BUT...this has been an on going battle by certain group of dog owners. It has absolutely nothing to do with dogs being on certain sides of the park

It is NOT just an issue of which sides the large dogs go to. The large dogs ownrrs want to use both sides. The small dogs have nowhere to go. The small dogs love to run but do not need to be trampled by the big dogs. The large dogs are not the ones getting injured... So it appears that they do not care. The small dogs ARE getting injured, I have witnessed it myself.

The only way this will ever work is if we can all try to just get along and remember why we go there in the first place. I go because I want my dog to have a good time and be able to just be a dog. I don't think anyone likes to see a dog get hurt. That has to be one of the worst things is to see that first hand. I have seen most be respectful at this park when this does happen. We all don't need to be best friends or friends at all. We just need to keep on being respectful of one another and make the focus be on the dogs. There is enough room for everyone!

Interesting that the dog owner who commented above saying she witnessed small dogs getting injured.... Her small dog caused some of the injuries.

Interesting that you say that.. Those injuries never happened and were a complete fabrication by somebody wanting attention. He insists on bringing his big dog into the small dog side just to cause problems. His dog however has attacked other dogs.

Very interesting..and false info by last writer above. The claims about the small dog causing injuries were completely fabricated by the main big dog owner causing all of the issues. Ironically, his dog has actually attacked and drew blood of small dogs at the park on multiple occasions. Seems as if he loves turmoil and the attention he gets by others by bullying seniors, women and small dog owners at the park..

The divide is dumb... there are bigger issues in this world then dog park drama.... Stop making it this way cause you make it awkward for everyone. Starting things online won't end good for anyone. As noted above, this is what this park deals with on a daily basis. This division can never be resolved. Fake comments, personal attacks, rumors, defacing signs on public property, yelling at dog owners...childhood playground behavior. I have seen many people come and go over the years and the climate of the park changes with the people who leave and the new arrivals. By the way, who are the new arrivals to the park gravitating to when they come to the park? No one wants to be around negative energy people who make it their mission to create discord. I realize this chain of comments can go on endlessly with no resolution. I think the County Park Supervisors can see how futile this situation is by reading all these comments. And the reason you see this as "pathetic" and just a "dog park drama" and "futile" is because you are both large dog owners with no respect for the small dogs or their owners. Sadly, it is the small dogs who do not have anywhere to go without being injured. If you want to go to a park with mixed dogs in one park- go to the indian rocks park...otherwise you need to respect the division that IS there.

Here's the latest proof of someone defacing the signs at Sand Key Dog park. The last markings had been removed, but now here's new ones. (both sides are marked) I've blocked out the profanity. This has gone beyond ridiculous -- it involves defacing public property.

this issue has not been fixed. Large dog owners continue to use the small dog side. Small dogs continue to be trampled and small dog owners are afraid to use the park.

Good afternoon, new signage has been placed at the dog park indicating weight limit rules for the small and large dog sides. Anyone in violation of these rules will be asked to comply or leave the dog park. Thank you for reporting!
