  Hello - We have reviewed this issue with our staff. The existing traffic controller cannot be repaired to make the ped buttons work properly. TPAL is evaluating installation of a new traffic control device, a solar powered, push button activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon. These devices are used in these sorts of lighter volume pedestrian crossings, and are effective in alerting drivers of a pedestrian in the intersection.

  Thanks Chris for writing back to me. It sounds like that new solar power rapid flashing beacon could be an option for Whitwell St. I know we don't have a large number of pedestrians using the crosswalk with the hospital closed but occasionally I'll see families with small children using the crosswalk to cross Whitwell St. Traffic can move pretty fast at that location since Whitwell St. opens up there so it is important that we have something to alert drivers about the crossing. Even the flashing yellow that you activated (vs. the steady green) helps. Thanks, Eric
