Thank you for submitting this issue. The intersection of Bergen Ave and Bidwell Ave has been added to the City's on-going list of locations for future improvements. We will conduct a traffic study to determine what type of improvements should be implemented.

Please note that significant improvements were made to Bergen Avenue between Claremont Ave and Bidwell Ave in the last 2 years, including high visibility crosswalks and pedestrian crossings signs. We are in the process of conducting a preliminary traffic assessment to determine what type of traffic control is warranted at the intersection of Bergen Ave and Bidwell Ave. The preliminary assessment will also help identify if a more in-depth study is required. Please allow 3-4 weeks for the preliminary study to be completed.

A preliminary traffic assessment was conducted based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidelines as outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The assessment included a review of the intersection’s crash history. Based on JCPD crash reports, this intersection does not meet the minimum FHWA threshold for major crashes to warrant a change in traffic control. Therefore, we do not recommend the construction of a traffic signal at this location at this time.
