Description

Feb 02 2019 Discovered a new fallen tree has destroyed again the deer fence between Falls River Apartment complex and Durant Road. The deer fence is located on county land of the Durant Road Landfill and Park. Ironically new down fence is next to the location of previous break in the fence caused by a falling tree that was finally fixed after complaining for 3 years, and the city of Raleigh and Wake County saying its was the other jurisdiction's problem. When last fixed the down trees were not removed making great snake dens, on both sides of the fence. There are other trees that need to be evaluated and a few that in poor enough shape that the next Storm will probably take the fence down again. There is a gate to provide access to fence located next to creek 300 yards north of down tree location. Nearest road access is through the sugarberry court parking lot. Next is the utility road leading from Deponie Drive, the land fill park access road to the Wake county maintenance for utility vehicles. The tension on the fence caused by the down tree(s) has pulled that gate apart. The top of the deer fence between the new down fence and the gate is a three (3) strand barb wire, that is broken in several spots due to view growth and other actions of "mother nature" to take back territory. Other photos showing the damage are available. There are post which are the survey markers showing the border between the county land and the various private properties.
Various Trees located in the setback area, have been infected by I believe Ficus and Air potato. I am not an arborist. I have not seen Kudzu...thank goodness.
