Description
With the beautiful new city turf fields, patrons of Merrimack that have experienced field closures due to wet conditions for years were excited to have a field use option for soccer and other sports coming to town for those many Spring and Fall nights when practice is cancelled due to wet fields. We were finally going to be like Birmingham and Nashville and Atlanta and have a place to practice even if it rained that day! It is disappointing to learn that the organizations in town that pay approximately a $60 per player fee each season to the city for field use do not have use of these new fields for practice during Merrimack field closures. The new city fields are an extra charge to organizations that already pay thousands in city field use fees! Why build these new awesome fields and facilities if our residents and programs can’t use them when needed and instead the turf fields will sit empty on a rainy day? I wish the city would reconsider having the new turf fields as a part of city field usage, especially if the fields are empty (not paid for or reserved by a group) and the city closes all city grass fields due to wet conditions.
