Description
During today’s rain the water coming off Mathis Mountain was so deep and swift it was dangerous to attempt to drive from Chickamauga east. The flow at the intersection of Mountain Gap and Mathis Mountain was so swift and wide I had to decide whether to let a tree fall on me or try to traverse the stream. The flow was full of mud, rocks, tree limbs, and debris. This doesn’t happen often but something needs to be done about drainage.

Looks as if water is holding or collecting somewhere up top on Mathis Mountain within Stonemark neighborhood and flooding anyone below in it's path.
Residents are desperate to have resolutions of the issues caused by rain. City of Huntsville needs to investigate from all areas around this mountain.

The rainfall that occurred on Saturday March 9 was over 1.2 inches of rain in 20 minutes with 1 five minute period in which the rainfall was recorded as 0.62”. A rainfall this intense exceeds the design capacity of our stormwater system. We are planning to add additional drainage infrastructure in this area to minimize the impact flash flood events such as this have. Feel free to contact the Engineering office at 256-427-5300 for more questions or concerns.
Thank you,
