These cases and court hearings can take longer than a year. Especially if the property owner fails to show up to court. When that happens a judge will issue a bench warrant for the owner. Then we have to wait for the owner to be arrested and served another court date. You can email me directly at jschardine@topeka.org

If the owner fails to show up for court, obviously he does not care. Why in the heck does it take soooo long to raze an eyesore in Topeka. No wonder no one wants to live here, the city moves at a snails pace. There are three houses that have been burned in the 1800 block of Lincoln, they have been condemned
, but still attract the homeless since they are still standing.

The owner of this property failed to appear in front of the judge. A bench warrant has been issued for her arrest. I will update the status of the case following the next court date.
What the heck is happening! This building should have been torn down years ago. Why is the city dragging their feet? Methinks there’s a little money exchanging hands.

This building does not qualify for demolition. The owner is required to make repairs and keep the building secured. I assure you no money is exchanging hands.
Oh, please, have you seen the building? It is a major eyesore! Is this what the city wants on one of the main streets? Three plus years this building has been sitting there attracting roaches, rats and other vermin, on a main road. I do not know who the owner is, however I suspect that it is someone who really does not care and the city should care. As to fixing it up and making repairs...do not hold your breath.

I am going to transfer this case to our special structures division so they can update you on the status of the demolition. It's a lengthy process but the results last forever.
We have started an unsafe case for this address and are in the process of scheduling it for an administrative hearing. The outcome of the hearing could be either receiving an order to demolish it or the owner can choose to rehab it. We will keep you posted in 30 days.

The 04/12/23 hearing resulted in a continuance for this case and is scheduled for another hearing on May 10th @ 3:00pm. The SSU will post updates following that hearing. Thank you for using SCF.
The first posting on this site is for 3/20/2019. By my calculation that is three years ago. Why was a continuance issued and why isn't demolition happening? Is it is so difficult to rid the city of an eyesore on a main road, not to mention the old building on the opposite side of the road headed west which is also falling apart. Get it together folks and stop letting all the red tape slow you down. Pass an ordinance that buildings that are abandoned for a specific amount of time are subject to demolition.
The initial case that was started at the opening of this ticket was a Housing case. It wasn't until more recently that the Special Structure Unit was able to access the interior and determine that the structure qualified for an Unsafe case. If the SSU is not able to contact the owner and see repairs being made, a demolition order will be requested. Thank you for using SeeClickFix.

The administrative hearing resulted in a continuance to June 28, 2023 to allow property owner to show evidence of workable plan for the property. The SSU wil follow up with updates at that time. Thank you for using SeeClickFix.
The first report/complaint about this building was on 2019! It has taken the city FOUR years to deal with this eyesore and yet nothing has been accomplished! It still sits there, a blight on the city whilst the “owner” holds up proceedings over and over and over again. Each time with a different excuse! Fave it people, the building is a loss, it cannot be rehabilitated. Will someone on the city council finally say “ENOUGH!”
