W. Fenlon is also a designated bike route, very dangerous to ride bikes on that street. I have seen families try to navigate the street on bikes.

As a designated bike route (with signs posted) I'd think the city will be facing a BIG liability when the inevitable car/bike accident happens. Bicycle lanes at the very least.

Do you remember a former mayor bragging about our "walkable community"? Not!!! West Fenlon is definatelyone of the streets that would benefit from sidewalks on BOTH sides of the street. The Washington Inn begins the pathway and now the sidewalk needs to be extended to Ballston Ave. Cyclists should be allowed to use sidewalks "with care" anywhere in the city except for the downtown core. This is what is done in other communities.

I agree. Having once lived on Prospect Drive which runs into W. Fenlon, I believe that a sidewalk would prevent accidents there. There is poor visibility turning onto W. Fenlon from Prospect, Plesant and Spa Drive, and perhaps a sidewalk would help.

Amen, this is a very dangerous place for pedestrians ,especially in the Winter, The whole of Congress and New St to West ave needs a continuous sidewalk as there are just bits and pieces and this is a route for students going to the high school.

With the form of government we now have, everything you want to accomplish is more difficult. One idea is to start gathering folks who are interested in sidewalks and agree to attend all city council meetings and speak about your issue at every public comment period. If you start being the squeeky wheel now, perhaps by Spring the city can come up with a plan? Unlikely, but we can try. Also, Call Aileen Ball at the State Park and check on any possible plans for the State Park side of the street.

I agree with neighbors banding together and going to the meetings at City Hall. Raise your concerns frequently. Contact everyone from The Hotel Russell west to Ballston Avenue (both sides of the street) and perhaps everyone who lives in that development. I lived on Prospect Drive way back when and there was always a problem pulling out onto W Fenlon. I am sure Pleasant Drive and Spa Drive residents have problems as well. One day there WILL be a bad accident there, as people do speed and do not see the intersections. A Sidewalk would at least give a little leeway to oncoming traffic.

The comment in today's paper says it all about this community. "Its always been this way" and "we have no plan" to complete sidewalks. Until we change this form of government and hire a "professional" who knows how to implement a plan for "Complete Streets", Saratoga Springs will continue to struggle with exactly these issues.

I agree also. West Fenlon is an accident waiting to happen. I would not ride a bike or walk there around the inside of that curve. I think a sidewalk is in order. I have come around that curve and come upon people walking. Some kind of funding could be put into next years budget, or at least get the ball rolling on 'the process' to get it on the list of funded projects.

A related issue is that at the light where West Fenlon meets Ballston Ave there is a crosswalk that goes nowhere. If you cross Ballston on foot west-to-east, the crosswalk just dumps you into someone's yard or a snowbank, depending on the season. There needs to be a sidewalk for this crosswalk to connect to.

I agree with this assessment of the situation, and if you DO try to drive slower, on the curves, etc. rude folks honk at you and ride up your a#$...oh wait, that's EVERYWHERE...

Still no sidewalk at the end of October. The city claims that there is no money for the project. It's a place where an accident is waiting to happen. Furthermore, walk lights and crosswalks on Route 50 would complete the project with added safety features.

Your opportunity to change how things are done (which currently means "not done") in Saratoga Springs is coming soon. We need to hire a professionally trained city manager who serves our elected officials and the wishes of the people of the city. It is ridiculous that the city cannot pick one important sidewalk project each summer and get it done. The West Fenlon project should have been at the top of the list but unfortunately, our disfunctional city hall has no list.

as it is. You want sidewalks? Vote on November 8 for Change. Mayor Wilkes will bring that change.

While there are plans in the works for improving the Route 50/Lincoln Ave area, there should also be plans for a sidewalk on this street. The city needs to do both projects.

Almost got hit the other day when walking facing traffic. Will it take a pedestrian accident before a sidewalk is installed????

The city has been ignoring their responsibility regarding pedestrian and bike access. DPW can build the sidewalk and bill half of it to the property owner's taxes. We finally have a few progressive council members that may get this and many other problems solved. Go to the city council and speak out during the public commenty period. Write letters to the newspapers.

It is obvious that posting messages here doesn't work. It is not generating enough attention throughout the community and it easily ignored by our dysfunctional and disorganized city hall. If you really want to turn up the heat then you must do more. Call DPW. Call Public Safety. Call the Mayor's office. Call the Risk and Safety Officer Marilyn Rivers. Write letters to the newspapers.
