A crosswalk on Huron under city jurisdiction is a good idea.
The existing pedestrian crossing nearby at Huron and Fresh Pond Pkwy is extremely dangerous especially now that DCR has not restored the “no right on red” sign destroyed by a hit and run a few days ago.

NOBODY stops at this particular crosswalk, it definitely needs a light.

There was a discussion of a speed table at Huron Avenue and the Parkway: designed for 25 MPH. The discussion included other locations too: a new crossing at the Cambridge Water Department where school children are seen running across from school, and the following: a new crossing at Larch Road, Brattle Street, and Mount Auburn Street. Now, one can easily find speeding over 40 MPH, sometimes over 50 MPH along Fresh Pond Parkway, even in the curving part where some call the curves “traffic calming”. The speed limit is 25 MPH. And or, one could simple pass the current state legislation allowing camera ticketing. Speed cameras like visible police cars tend to reduce speeds to the speed limit.

Much time has passed.
The city of Cambridge has done nothing.
The DCR has done nothing meaningful. We are guaranteed more deaths, accidents and fear.
Raised crosswalks and speed cameras are a solution.
I fear nothing will improve until public outcry drops this problem square in the Governor’s lap. Only then will we see the State Police and DCR fulfill their obligations.
Until then our public safety remains ignored.

We will be installing upgraded pedestrian signage at this location to enhance the visibility of the crosswalk and pedestrian refuge island. Thank you for your report.
