Whether a light is put there or not the reality is that the crosswalk is often ignored and pedestrians often cross there especially with kids as CREMA is on the corner of Duncan and Bergen as is OooLaLa and Carvao ...and there are way too many people who pass in the opposing lane to get by when a car IS stopped for someone in the crosswalk...this spot is VERY like the corner of West Side and Harrison Avenue where many of us have almost been hit (now that there is a blinking light to push to cross AND there are the yellow bollards on West Side ave things are a lot better. I used to live on Duncan and JFK (the Hague) and often go to CREMA or OOOlala with friends so I see this myself at this corner and think no matter what happens that we should address the reality that crossing there is a huge risky act and that the city seems not to care about what happens when people are in the crosswalk as there are never cops there to see what happens and we take our life in our hands when we cross on that spot.

We will conduct a preliminary traffic assessment to determine what type of traffic control is warranted at this intersection. The preliminary assessment will also help identify if a more in-depth study is required. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for the preliminary study to be completed.

A preliminary traffic assessment was conducted based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidelines as outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The assessment included a review of the intersection’s crash history. Based on JCPD crash reports, this intersection does not meet the minimum FHWA threshold for major crashes to warrant a change in traffic control. Therefore, we do not recommend the construction of a traffic signal at this location at this time.
